Deduction will hamper growth: Industrialists

The Focal Point Industries Association has urged the state government to withdraw the notification related to deduction of Rs 200 per month in the form of Professional Tax from employees engaged in any profession.

Association president Kamal Dalmia sent a communiqué to Vivek Puri, secretary to Punjab government, Department of Legal and Legislative Affairs, in this regards.

He said that the notification dated April 19 regarding “payment of Professional Tax of Rs 200 per month by every person engaged in any profession has created mistrust among the employees and their employers.

“The employers have of no knowledge of how and where the Professional Tax needs to be deposited,” Dalmia said.

He said that this move would hamper the industrial progress in the state as the industrial growth has hit rock bottom in last one decade, especially after demonetisation and implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST).
