Five booked for theft

AMRITSAR: The police have booked five persons for allegedly stealing green rice from a godown near the Bhagtanwala grain market.

The police have booked five persons for allegedly stealing green rice from a godown near the Bhagtanwala grain market. The complainant, Suraj Wadhwa, stated to the police that he had locked the godown on April 9 that he reopened on Sunday. He found that someone had taken away bags containing green rice after breaking open the glass window of the godown. He said that during counting he found 12 bags of 25 kg each and 19 bags of 40 kg each stolen.

The police have registered a case under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC against Gaggu and Satinder of Himmatpura, Bunty of Pandori village, Gola and Kaka of Bhai Vir Singh Colony.

Manjinder Singh, investigating officer, said the suspects were yet to be arrested. He said following specific inputs, the police also managed to recover some of the stolen green rice from the residence of one of the accused. The accused had been working as labourers in the grain market and nearby shops. Raids were being conducted to arrest them, he added.
