Four member NCDC team visits airport, adjoining areas

AMRITSAR: A four member team of National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) visited Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport and its adjoining areas, including Rajasansi, here today to conduct a survey in view of the recent Zika virus threat.

A four member team of National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) visited Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport and its adjoining areas, including Rajasansi, here today to conduct a survey in view of the recent Zika virus threat.

The team visited the residential accommodation located inside the airport. The team comprising, Dr Mohammad Majid, Dr Abhay Kumar Sharma and Dr Subhash Chander Sharma, advised the people to take precautionary measures to stop breading of mosquitoes and remove stagnant water. They asked the people to immediately visit a doctor if they had fever and other symptoms of Zika virus.

Dr SP Singh, chief medical officer, Government of India, said the team would submit its report to the government after completing the survey while the Airport Authority of India would initiate steps to check any such case and control breeding of mosquitoes.

It is evident to mention here that earlier, a medical team from Chandigarh had visited the city while local health authorities have also taken several steps in to prevent the outbreak of Zika virus. However, not a single case infected with Zika virus has been reported so far.
