GMC doc accused of taking bribe

AMRITSAR: Attendants of a patient at the cardiology ward of Government Medical College (GMC) accused a doctor of taking Rs 10,000 as bribe for treatment.

Attendants of a patient at the cardiology ward of Government Medical College (GMC) accused a doctor of taking Rs 10,000 as bribe for treatment. The matter came to light after they filed a complaint with the medical superintendent.

A patient, Kashmir Singh, of Inderpuri has been undergoing treatment at the GMC. His son Amar Singh alleged that the doctor had demanded Rs 10,000 which they paid to him. According to him, the doctor had stated that the total cost of the treatment would be around Rs 35,000.

Amar Singh along with some people created a scene in the ward and accused the doctor of demanding more money. Medical Superintendent Dr Surinder Pal said he had received the complaint. “An investigation will be conducted. If found guilty, action will be taken against the doctor. The doctor has been asked to explain his side,” he added. — TNS
