GNDU colleges eligible to enrol PhD students

The teaching faculty of GNDU affiliated colleges is now eligible to enrol PhD students. This was approved in the Syndicate meeting of Guru Nanak Dev University held on Monday. The proposal of executing PhD viva through video conferencing was also approved in the meeting.

It has also been decided that the PhD eligibility test will be valid for two years. Vice-Chancellor Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu presided over the meeting while registrar Prof KS Kahlon presented the agenda. Prof Kamaljit Singh, dean, academic affairs and members of Syndicate were present to discuss various issues.

A large number of vocational courses to be started in affiliated colleges, the meeting approved. For smooth conduct and proper utility of various grants received from UGC, Punjab Government and others, the Syndicate also approved appointment of Prof in charge construction and planning. Prof Sandhu also discussed the financial status of the university and revealed that the grant provided to this university was very less as compared to other universities. The financial trouble is a major issue and needed to be dealt on urgent basis. He expressed his worries about the lack of finances for sustaining the existing plans and executing the future plans. He appealed to Cabinet Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and MLA Harminder Singh Gill to resolve the issue of scarcity of funds through Punjab government and to provide the financial strength to the university.

A central purchase cell will also be coming in the university. Under this, the purchase of stationary and other such material will be done by this committee. Eleven PhD theses were also given a nod.

Other decisions of Syndicate
