The Folklore Research Academy will dedicate its annual magazine ‘Panj Paani’ to the Pakistani philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, who passed away on July 21 in Karachi.

An 88-year-old Edhi set up Edhi Foundation, one of largest welfare organisation in Pakistan, that provides free medical aid and rescue services for abandoned children and destitutes. While giving details, Ramesh Yadav, president, Folklore Research Academy, said Edhi’s contribution to betterment of the humanity and empowering destitutes was at par with none.

“Just like we celebrate Bhagat Puran Singh, who dedicated his life to the service of humanity, baba Edhi too was a savior of those shunned by society at large. We will publish this year’s edition of ‘Panj Paani’ in his memory. The magazine will come out on August 15,” he said.

As many as 2,000 copies of ‘Panj Paani’ are published every year, which are distributed across the region.

Yadav said, “Edhi’s work and achievements will be also feature in the edition. His organisation provides world’s largest ambulance service free of cost to anyone, who needs it. His ideals and thoughts on religion were quite different than what we know today. His religion was his work.”

The academy will also hold a special commemoration programme on the day edition of the magazine comes out.
