Around 30 employees of the Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT) were found absent during a surprise check conducted by Dinesh Bassi, new chairman of the AIT, on Friday. Besides, seven higher officials and 70 per cent of the employees were seen arriving late for work.

Bassi reached the AIT head office in Ranjit Avenue a few minutes before 9 am and sat near the reception counter for inspection. He noted the time of arrival of the staff.

Out of the 137 employees, 30 were absent. Almost 70 per cent of the employees arrived late. Some of the employees turned up at around 11 am. Bassi said that the office had installed a biometric attendance machine several years ago which had been lying defunct. Bassi warned the officials and employees to follow the office timetable or be ready to face the music. He also issued instructions for the repair of the biometric attendance machine.

“People reach the office before 9 am to get their work done, but most of the staff members don’t come on time. I have warned them to reach the office on time and serve people,” he said.
