Amber Sheeley, a librarian from Allen County Public Library, Indiana, USA, visited the District Library, Rani Ka Bagh, and Moti Lal Nehru Library, to interact with staff and readers. She was seemingly impressed with the collection of Moti Lal Nehru Library, which is housed in the town hall building alongside the Partition Museum.

She interacted with Dr Prabhjot Sandhu, librarian at the District Library, Rani Ka Bagh, on the status and functioning of public libraries in India.

“Public libraries in the US are quite developed as advanced learning centres and community hubs. On my visit to India, I have specifically been visiting public libraries. In Amritsar, I feel that the two libraries have good potential,” she said.

Dr Prabhjot Sandhu, who briefed her about the resources and scope of public libraries, said Sheeley was keen on giving useful pointers to help increase the library outreach.

“We cannot compare the status of libraries in the US and India as there is a huge gap between infrastructure. Despite that, Sheeley was glad to visit and go through the literature kept at the libraries,” she added.
