One held with 2.50 kg of heroin, two escape

The narcotic cell of the city police today seized 2.50 kg of heroin and arrested one person, identified as Karan Singh, a resident of Beauty Avenue in Mahal village here. Two of his accomplices, identified as Pawan Kumar and his brother, Raman Kumar, who originally belonged to Dande village near the international border and now live at Paradise Colony in Chheharta, managed to slip away.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Lakhbir Singh said the police had specific inputs that the accused were involved in drug smuggling and were in possession of heroin recently smuggled into the city. He said Raman had recently come out of jail.

The police immediately raided the residence of Pawan Kumar where they found Karan Singh while Raman and Pawan had managed to escape. His interrogation led to the seizure of five packets of 500 gm of heroin each, which were concealed beneath a double bed in the house. Karan was produced in the court and brought on police remand for further interrogation. Lakhbir Singh said investigations were under progress to know the source of the contraband and to whom it was meant to be delivered.

He said Karan Singh was wanted in three separate cases under the NDPS and the Arms Acts. Raman was also booked in three separate cases of the NDPS Act at the Gharinda police station in the Amritsar rural police.

Meanwhile, the Division C police have arrested two persons and recovered 270 gm of narcotic powder from their possession. The police also confiscated two laptops and a mobile phone from their possession. A case under Sections 379, 411, IPC, and Sections 22/61/85 of the NDPS Act has been registered.

Similarly, the Sultanwind police has arrested Arjun and Kunal of Guru Ram Dass Nagar and Sagar of Gobind Singh Nagar for allegedly possessing 30 gm of heroin. It also impounded a scooter from his possession.
