Amritsar, September 18

Learning a lesson from the horrifying rail accident at Jaura Phatak on Dasehra festival last year, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shivdular Singh Dhillon has called a meeting for coordination with the departments concerned. The meeting is scheduled on September 20.

After the accident, a magisterial inquiry had recommended single window approval for such religious functions with the final approval of a competent officer. Following the recommendations, the DC called the police commissioner, the SSP, the MC commissioner, Chief Administrator of Amritsar Development Authority, officials of the PSPCL, Amritsar Improvement Trust, etc., to take part in the meeting.

Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu stated that he had written a letter to the DC on September 16 to call a coordination meeting of officials. “Religious bodies are applying to the police and the MC to get approval but the departments are not responding. I have written to the DC for a single window approval system. He has called a meeting.” — TNS
