Though the city police claimed to have vital clues in the snatching of an SUV from the Ranjit Avenue area on Tuesday, yet it has failed to make any breakthrough in another similar incident in which armed miscreants took away an SUV from the driver of the BJP spokesperson, RP Maini, a few days ago.

“We have definite clues in the snatching of the SUV from the Ranjit Avenue area and are hopeful to crack the case. We have the CCTV footage of the incident and raiding parties are on their job to arrest the culprits,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Parampal Singh.

The three miscreants had left a motorcycle at the spot when they snatched Pajaro car, which belonged to an Akali leader Surinder Singh, at gun point. Surinder is chairperson of the Chogawan Market Committee. His son Simranjit Singh had come to a coaching centre at the Ranjit Avenue area for taking the IELTS classes on Tuesday morning while his driver Manit Singh was waiting in the car. The three motorcycle-borne youth approached the driver, snatched the keys of the vehicle and fled away leaving behind their motorcycle. The motorcycle was later found to be stolen.

The DCP said the accused had snatched the motorcycle outside Ishar Public School in the Civil Lines area a couple of days ago. He said the police had vital clues about the snatchers and hopefully they would be arrested soon. In the earlier incident armed persons had taken away a Toyata Innova belonging to BJP leader RP Maini on June 25. Maini and his family were having dinner at a restaurant located in the Basant Avenue area when several armed persons kidnapped his driver and took away the vehicle towards Jandiala Guru. Later, they let off the driver and fled with the vehicle. The police released sketches of four suspects on the description of the driver, Sonu, but failed to achieve any breakthrough in the case so far.

The DCP said the city police had recommend a bravery award for Aritu as she had shown courage, fought with the unidentified snatchers for at least 10-minutes and did not let go of her purse. She sustained a fracture in the fight with culprits. The DCP said the police was committed to curb snatchings, which had witnessed a spurt recently.
