Theft, murder bid charges slapped

The police have booked around 12 persons for attempt to murder, theft, voluntary causing hurt and sexual harassment in connection with the Ranjit Avenue firing incident that took place on Wednesday evening.

Among the accused are Sulakhni Chabba, an architect, her father Ravi Chabba, Laddi Sarpanch, her brother and around eight unknown persons. No arrest has been made so far. It was also alleged that the accused also took away Rs 90,000 in cash besides two mobile phones after attacking the complainant, Twinkle Mahajan.

Panic had gripped the Ranjit Avenue’s B Block market when armed persons thrashed Twinkle, working with Delta consultancy, and also owner Daljit Singh Sandhu besides firing a couple of gunshots. Twinkle works as a manager at the office. She mentioned in her complaint that she had assigned interior designing of the office to Sulakhani Chabba for Rs 20,000 and gave Rs 5,000 in advance. According to her, Sulakhani left the work midway. On Wednesday, Sulakhani Chabba turned up and demanded the rest of the money, resulting in the brawl. Her aides are said to have opened fire at her along with owner Daljit Singh Sandhu, but they escaped. Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntary causing hurt), 354-A (sexual harassment), 380 (theft) of the IPC, and 25, 27, 54, 59 of the Arms Act have been slapped. ADCP Lakhbir Singh said the accused were absconding.
