Refresher course in business mgmt begins

AMRITSAR: A three-week refresher course in Commerce and Business Management on “Pedagogical Innovations in Commerce and Business Management” inaugurated on Thursday at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of Guru Nanak Dev University.

A three-week refresher course in Commerce and Business Management on “Pedagogical Innovations in Commerce and Business Management” inaugurated on Thursday at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of Guru Nanak Dev University.

As many as 31 university and college teachers from commerce and business management from all over India are participating.

Prof Balwinder Singh, University School of Financial Studies, presided over the inaugural session. Expressing his concern over the financial crunch being faced by universities in general across the country, he stressed the need to augment the financial resources of the university by introducing new need-based programmes in various faculties.

Sharing his views regarding the challenges confronting the teaching community in the prevailing scenario, he opined that the teachers have to rise to the occasion to make themselves relevant in the light of the unprecedented advancements of information technology.

Concluding his address, he counselled the participants to inculcate moral, ethical, humane values in their students in order to produce good human beings as well.

Dr Jasveen Kaur, head, University Business School (UBS) and the course coordinator formally introduced the thrust area ‘Pedagogical Innovations in Commerce and Business Management’ of the course. She emphasised the need of adapting to characteristics of students and responding to their developmental requirements are inherent aspects of pedagogy innovation.

Prof Adarsh Pal Vig, director of the centre, in his welcome address, exhorted the participants to make a virtue out of the necessity and to take the rigours of the course in their stride and derive maximum academic advantages from this course.
