Residents of the Inderpuri area have been facing a tough time due to sewage accumulation in their locality.

The ongoing work of laying sewerage pipes is said to be the reason behind the problem. The residents complained that the slow pace of the work had added to their woes. The residents can be seen using bricks to cross waterlogged streets. Gurjant Singh, an area resident, said the work of laying sewerage pipes in the area had started around six months ago.

“Now the people seem to have learned the art of crossing the street with the help of bricks without falling,” quipped Gurjant on seeing an elderly woman crossing the street.

The residents complained that earlier pumps were installed to channelise dirty water into drains from streets but for the past two weeks, sewage is accumulating the streets.

“Showers in the past few days and no drainage of water led to waterlogging in the streets,” said Jaswant Singh, a resident.

The waterlogged streets have started damaging the walls of adjoining houses.

Families belong to the lower-middle class reside in the locality.

“Labourers can be seen every day but we feel that they are working at a snail’s pace. In the next few weeks, there is likely more rain and the streets may become a breeding ground for mosquitoes,” said a worried Kamla Devi.
