SGPC sends relief to flood victims

SGPC executive members and officials on Monday flagged off relief material along with a team of 35 members, led by Deputy Secretary Tejinder Singh Padda, to serve Kerala flood victims.

The relief material comprised wheat flour, sugar, milk powder, cereals, rice, spices, soaps, toothpaste, toothbrush and other essential articles besides medicines. The team of volunteers includes sewadars, langaris (cooks) and medical staff. They will distribute food, bedding, medicines among the needy.

SGPC Chief Secretary Dr Roop Singh said the SGPC team would also inform the officials at the Shiromani Committee headquarters about requirement of more aid. He said the visiting team would take assistance of Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Bangalore.

The Shiromani Committee will set up two flood relief centres in Kerala. These camps would continue to supply the relief material as long as it would be required, he added.

The SGPC has established six centres to collect the relief material. These centres are Bhai Gurdas Hall, Amritsar, Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Takht Sri Anandpur Sahib, Takht Damdama Sahib, Talwandi Sabo, Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib, Patiala, Gurdwara Manji Sahib, Alamgir, Gurdwara Nadha Sahib, Panchkula and Gurdwara Chhevi Patshahi, Kurukshetra.
