Amritsar: MLA OP Soni inaugurated a sewage treatment plant to enable its water to irrigate fields and prepare manure at Khapar Keri village here on Friday. Soni said the plant was capable to clean 95 million litre of water and the same would be released free of cost to farmers. Similarly, manure would also be made available free of cost to farmers. He informed that the plant, spread on 38 acres of land, was planned and inaugurated during the previous UPA government at the Centre. TNS

Bus staff call off strike 

Finally, Metro Bus employees called off their strike over non-payment of salaries on Friday. The decision was taken after Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kamaldeep Singh Sangha assured them that the contractor operating the metro bus service would release their salary on Tuesday. Harjot Sigh, a bus conductor, said, “After assurance from the DC, we decided to call off the strike. The DC assured us that he will address the problems being faced by the employees.” If the company fails to release our salaries, we will plan the protest again, he added. Twelve buses on two routes run under the BRTS project. The company has hired more than 200 employees, including drivers, conductors, ticket counter representatives and security guards. TNS

House burgled

Unidentified persons decamped with jewellery and cash from a house in Chheharta area. Ramesh Kumar, owner of the house, said he along with his family members was sleeping on the rooftop. He said when he went downstairs in the wee hours, he found the locks of an almirah broken. The accused took away Rs 2.30 lakh in cash, a gold necklace, earrings, a gold chain and three rings. The police have registered a case. TNS

Earrings snatched

Two unidentified persons snatched a gold earring from a woman. The victim, Baljinder Kaur, was standing outside her house when two persons came on a motorcycle and snatched her earring. She has lodged a complaint with the police. TNS
