Love stories are wonderful, magical and infectious. When you hear one, you take it back home, irrespective of the happy or sad endings. So, when Sanskritic Manch Assam presented a joyous, romantic tale of two strangers, who meet on a sunny morning in the backdrop of an ironic, unhappy Spain, the audience got hooked, not much bothered about the language. Eserenga Rod, meaning “A Sunny Morning”, was a short story of sweethearts from the past, each knowing the other only in thoughts and never in person. Written by Spanish dramatists Serafin Alvarez Quintero and Joaquin Alvarez Quintero, the play was published among the 30 famous one-act plays by Modern Library New York in 1943.

Directed by Pranjal Saikia, the one-hour play brought some colours of fun on the second day of Poorvotar Rashtriya Rang Utsav at Punjab Natshala. “I have been working on the script for long to create it into a one-hour stage play. The translator of the original play, Pradyut Deka helped us in developing the script with a beautiful poem by Campoamor, without disturbing the peace, spirit and beauty of the original play,” said Saikia.

Sanskritic Manch Assam, who presented the play, is a socio-cultural organisation in Guwahati. It has been conducting theatre workshops and gives Barhamthuri Silpi Award to the poor and needy artisans in Assam. It also organises brand Bihu workshop in Guwahati in collaboration with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
