A youth, identified as Sandeep Singh (24), was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle borne youths at Baba Bakala here late last evening.

Lakhwinder Singh, a resident of Mata Ganga Enclave, Dolenangal village, told the police that his son had gone for some work in the afternoon and did not return till late evening. He said they were waiting for him outside the residence when they saw him coming from the Baba Bakala bus stand side at around 8.15 pm.

“Meanwhile, two motorcycle-borne youths started quarrelling with him. A youth riding pillion took out a pistol and shot Sandeep, who sustained shot bullet injuries — one in the ribs and the other in the hips,” he said.

He was rushed to Baba Bakala hospital from where he was shifted to Amritsar where doctors declared him dead.

Beas SHO Mukhtiar Singh said Sandeep had a criminal record and he was released on bail around a month ago. He said around five cases of quarreling, snatchings and under the NDPS Act had been registered against him. “A case under Sections 302, 34 of the IPC and 24, 54, 59 of the Arms Act has been registered,” he said.
