Punjabi movie ‘Dakuaan Da Munda’, based on the life of reformed gangster-drug addict Baljinder Singh alias Mintu Gurusaria, native of neighbouring Gurusar Jodha village, got good response on the first day of its release on Friday.

A majority of youths, after watching the movie, appreciated it. They said it was worth watching as it gave a message of staying away from illegal activities.

Harjinder Singh, who saw the first show of the movie, said, “We, a group of nine friends, missed our classes to watch the movie. We will come again to watch it on Sunday. The actors have performed well. We all liked the real life story.”

Similarly, Parveen Kumar, a native of Abohar, said, “This is an inspirational movie for drug addicts. If someone knows any addict, he should bring that person to the cinema hall to show the movie.”

Notably, 40-year-old Mintu, a former kabaddi player, was into illegal activities for one-and-a-half-decade. He first consumed smack when he was just 16.

Later, he faced several criminal cases, including attempt to murder and robbery.

His father had even disassociated him from property, but a road mishap in 2011 changed his life.

He remained bed-ridden for a long time due to his broken leg and then stepped towards mending his ways. Gradually, he started writing and contributing for newspapers.

Today, he is not just an author of two books, ‘Zindagi De Aashiq’ and widely acclaimed autobiography ‘Dakuaan Da Munda’.

Besides, he hosts several programmes on foreign radio channels. He also claims to have helped in changing lives of some addicts, who have settled abroad.

Mintu has a huge fan following on social media and whatever he posts goes viral within minutes.

Mintu has appealed to people from all walks of life to watch the movie saying that it would give a beautiful message to society and help in changing lives.
