Mansa, May 19

Raising a question on the security arrangements at the Mansa jail, five cellphones were recovered from the premises of the jail within a week.

Following a complaint by jail superintendent Davinder Singh, a case was registered at the Sadar police station against an inmate and an unidentified person. The police started investigation into the case.

In his complaint to the police, the jail superintendent said a team of jail official was conducting a routine check on the jail premises when it recovered a cellphone from the dining hall of the jail.

The superintendent suggested that a case be registered against inmate Gurpreet Singh for hiding a cellphone on the jail premises.

“The data in the phone hinted that it belonged to Gurpeeet Singh, who managed to get the phone inside the jail premises,” officials said.

As per the statement of the jail superintendent, an unidentified person threw a small bag into the jail premises from outside the boundary wall. The bag was noticed by jail officials and the matter was brought to the notice of the jail superintendent.

“When the bag was checked, it contained four cellphones and a charger. This was also brought to the notice of the police in the complaint,” the jail superintendent said.
