Flyover construction on without safety measures

BATHINDA: The ongoing construction of the flyover on Barnala highway at Bibiwala Chowk is posing threat to the commuters.

Bathinda, July 19

The ongoing construction of the flyover on Barnala highway at Bibiwala Chowk is posing threat to the commuters. Iron rods are protruding from the structure towards the road.

They can cause serious accidents, especially when there is heavy traffic at the stretch.

Neither the flyover construction firm nor officials of the Public Works Department (PWD) have shown any concern over this issue.

Nearby shopkeepers allege that many a times they had intimate the flyover construction workers about this problem but to no avail.

During rush hours, many vehicles couldn’t escape hitting these iron roads.

Khushwant Singh, a shopkeeper, said, “At night, these iron rods are not visible enough, due to which many incidents have occurred in the recent past.”

Kamaljeet Singh, another commuter, said, “During the rains if any two-wheeler skids then these iron rods can even take the commuter’s life. The authorities must take strict action against the construction firm so that workers don’t repeat the mistake again.”

PWD Central Works XEN Neeraj Bhandari said, “We have already intimated the flyover construction firm manager to find some solution to the problem of protruding iron roads. If it’s not done then we will immediately take strict action against the firm.” — TNS
