Barnala, January 11

Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Labour Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu on Friday said Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government had been committed to reducing the state’s debt burden and developing Punjab as the most prosperous region in India.

He was here to administer oath to newly elected Zila Parishad and Block Samiti members as well as the representatives of panchayats of the district.

While congratulating the newly elected representatives, he appealed them to work for the betterment of their respective villages and regions without any discrimination.

He lauded the efforts of the district administration for conducting fair and peaceful elections.

The Cabinet Minister said under the able leadership of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, various schemes had been initiated by the Punjab government to tackle the issues like food adulteration, pollution, unemployment and economic development.

He said under the DAPO campaign, the supply line of drugs had been blocked and all possible help was being given to the drug victims for rehabilitation purposes.

“Various new schemes for allied business, including livestock, fishery, piggery and dairy have been introduced to create employment in Punjab,” the minister said.

Sidhu said soon the new programmes would be announced to reshape the development of Barnala district.

He said awareness camps would be organised so that farmers, labourers and other sections of society could be benefitted from the schemes being run by the state government.

Barnala Deputy Commissioner Dharm Pal Gupta said the district administration would provide all possible assistance to panchayats to help them in developing their villages.

Former MLAs Kewal Singh Dhillon, Harchand Kaur Ghanauri, SSP Harjit Singh, ADC (General) Ruhi Dugg, ADC (Development) Parveen Kumar, SDM Sandeep Kumar and other officers were present on the occasion.
