Bathinda, October 19

A case of travel fraud has been registered in which a person has been duped of Rs 32 lakh on the pretext of sending his son to Canada.

In a complaint lodged by Sham Lal, a resident of Model Town in Bathinda, it has been stated that accused Sanjay Goyal, a resident of Ganesha Basti, had cheated him of Rs 32 lakh on the pretext of sending his son Sahil Jindal to Canada.

He said after receiving the money, the accused neither sent his son abroad nor returned his money.

A case under Sections 420 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused at the Civil Lines police station.

Police officials say the proliferation of unregistered immigration consultants in the region in the past few years and lack of awareness among people have led to an increase in immigration frauds.
