To provide relief to residents from visiting the MC office and standing in long queues to pay bills, the Municipal Corporation has started a digital door-to-door bill payment collection service in the city.

Under the service, MC officials will visit residences to get the payment of bills, which can be paid through a credit or debit card. Residents will get a receipt on the spot. In the first phase, the MC has got 10 point of sale (POS) machines from Axis Bank so that its employees can collect the payment of bills at the doorstep of residents.

Apart from sewerage and water bills, residents will be able to pay the property tax and garbage collection fee as well. Residents have to provide their UID numbers, which will generate entire details regarding the outstanding bills on the electronic device.

Sandeep Gupta, an official of the civic body, said, “We have already initiated door-to-door digital collection of the bills. At first, five teams have been formed to complete the work. As per response, more teams will be roped in as we have 10 POS machines for the online payment service. The civic body has initiated the move keeping in view of inconvenience caused to the people. The field staff will collect the bill payment from residents and the system is fully secure.”

He said after making the payment, a person will receive an SMS on his mobile phone.

Earlier, the MC witnessed 30 per cent hike in the property tax recovery after the service of online payment of property tax came into existence.

Now, civic body officials are of the view that the online payment service is beneficial for them.
