People living in residential areas, including Mata Jivi Nagar, Hazura Kapura, Guru Gobind Singh Nagar, Prajapat Colony, Azad Nagar and Shiv Colony, have been facing a tough time owing to the construction of a flyover near Rose Garden Chowk. Residents of these areas say they face problems in the absence of a passageway near the flyover.

A number of residents alleged that despite knowing the fact that the residents residing near the construction site would face problems in crossing the road without any passageway, no steps had been taken by the authorities concerned in this regard.

Tarsem Singh, a resident of Hazura Kapura, said, “The passageway constructed by the authorities on the Bhatti road is far from the construction site and has failed to provide any relief. Residents living near the site unwillingly cross the divider.”

Instead of just completing the task given by the government, the authorities should think about the problems being faced the residents due to the construction, he added.

Jaskaran Singh, a resident of Shiv colony, said, “I think the government is not making a passageway due to security issues. But it has to understand the fact that if a passageway is not constructed on this stretch, commuters will cross the road or divider in a wrong way.”

The authorities had to make a passageway so that the people residing on both sides of the road did not cross the divider in a wrong way, he added.

He said in the absence of a passageway, the possibility of mishaps had increased.

Hamesh Mittal, SDO, Central Works, said, “We are not making a passageway near the Rose Garden Chowk due to the security point of view. If we construct the passageway, it will increase the possibility of accidents on the stretch. Moreover, we are finding a solution to the problem.”
