SAD councillor from Ward No. 25 rejoins Cong

SAD councillor from Ward No. 25 Jasvir Singh Jassa on Sunday joined the Congress again in the presence of Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, who is also the local MLA.

Jassa is a close aid of Congress leader Anil Bhola. In 2014, Bhola, along with his supporters, including Jassa, had left the Congress and joined the SAD in presence of the then Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal. Later in 2015, Jassa was re-elected as a councillor on the SAD ticket. Ahead of the 2017 Assembly elections, Bhola had joined the Congress.

Welcoming Jassa in the party, Manpreet said the Congress was happy that he had returned to the party after leaving the SAD. Manpreet said Jassa was a grassroots leader. “I am here today to congratulate him on him returning in the party,” he added.

The Finance Minister said proper honour would be given to him in the party. He said party needed such workers who were attached with the public.

While addressing a gathering on the Amrik Singh road, Manpreet said, “People are happy with the Congress policies and its indication is the results of three state Assembly elections, which were announced a few days ago. People in these three states have given the mandate to the Congress by reposing their faith in the party. The Congress will form its government in the Centre by winning the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.”

Replying to a query on Parkash Singh Badal’s apology at the Golden Temple, Manpreet said, “For the sin committed by Sukhbir Badal, father Parkash Singh Badal had to apologise by polishing shoes at the Golden Temple. The apology by the SAD clearly indicates that it has been anti-Punjab.”

The Finance Minister said the SAD was never so weak, which it had became under the leadership of Sukhbir Badal.

“The Congress has always done politics of development, labourers, employees and youth. The party does not interference in the panchayat elections. It is good if people elect sarpanches and panchs unanimously in their villages,” he added.
