VB nabs cop for taking bribe

BATHINDA: A team of the Vigilance Bureau (VB) today caught police constable Chamkaur Singh of the Maur police station while he was taking bribe of Rs 30,000.



Bathinda, March 18

A team of the Vigilance Bureau (VB) today caught police constable Chamkaur Singh of the Maur police station while he was taking bribe of Rs 30,000. (Rs 5,000 in cash and a cheque of Rs 25,000).

SSP Vigilance Bureau Ashok Bath said Kamal Mittal, a resident of Maur Mandi, lodged a complaint with the VB, in which he stated that his acquaintance Harbans Singh, a resident of Kuttiwal village, was arrested by Maur police with 1 kg of opium.

The cops Chamkaur Singh and Davinder Singh called him to the police station and beat him. They even threatened him to implicate him in the case. They agreed to take Rs 5,000 in cash and a cheque of Rs 25,000 today.

A trap was laid and constable Chamkaur Singh was caught red handed. A case has been registered against the two. — TNS
