Residents of Diwana village under the banner of BKU Ugrahan on Tuesday burnt an effigy of the Punjab Government and demanded action against drug-peddlers. They announced to intensify their agitation if the authorities failed to take quick action.

“The Punjab Government must take immediate action to control the supply of drugs as drugs have ruined the youth of Punjab. The Punjab Government should immediately take action against all those officials, who are not taking action against drug peddlers,” said Jaj Singh, block president of the BKU Ugrahan.

Another farmer Surinder Singh alleged that drug addiction had been on the rise among youngsters, but authorities were not doing anything in this regard.

“Many youngsters want to leave drugs, but the government has not made the required arrangements of de-addiction centres and there is also shortage of doctors,” he said.
