Entrepreneurship activity in the region is in upswing, but despite the rising popularity, start-ups are marred with unique set of challenges and problems. With three major challenges – “Start, grow and scale” – as a central theme, TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs), Chandigarh chapter, is organising TieCon Chandigarh 2019, a start-up and entrepreneurial event on February 16 at the Indian School of Business ( ISB ), Mohali.

“The youth have ideas, but they don’t know how to give it a practical shape by venturing into a start-up. Besides, many of the start-ups, which are doing reasonably well, are not able to grow or scale. The conference will dwell upon these vital issues,” said Sameer Jain, president, TiE and founder and CEO of Net Solutions.

Elaborating on the root cause, IS Paul, managing director (MD), Drish Shoes Ltd said, “Start-up culture brings its own unique set of challenges and problems. If conceptualising a start-up is not enough, growing and scaling it to a certain level is equally more challenging.”

As many as 32 start-ups from Punjab and Chandigarh will showcase their products at a pavilion called “Start Up Bazaar”. Vijay Inder Singla, PWD and IT Minister, Punjab; JM Balamurugan, Principal Secretary to Governor, Government of Punjab; Vini Mahajan, Additional Chief Secretary, Departments of Housing and Urban Development; Dr Shiv Khera, author, business consultant and entrepreneur; Dr A Velumani, chairman and managing director, thyrocare’ and senior functionaries of different countries are among the speakers, who will dwell upon a way forward to enhance the start-up industry in this part of the region.
