9 probationer nurses commissioned as lieutenants

CHANDIGARH: Nine probationer nurses from the 50th batch of the School of Nursing, Command Hospital, Chandimandir, were commissioned as lieutenants into the Military Nursing Service on Monday.

Nine probationer nurses from the 50th batch of the School of Nursing, Command Hospital, Chandimandir, were commissioned as lieutenants into the Military Nursing Service on Monday. They were “pipped” with their badges of rank by the hospital commandant, Maj Gen Rashmi Datta.

The gold medal for securing the first position in academics in the batch and the fifth position in all India merit was awarded to Lt Anjana PV, while the silver medal for being second in the batch and seventh in all India merit went to Lt Amritanjanli. Lt Sanju Punia was adjudged as the best all-round cadet of the batch, while Lt Sobhika S was awarded the best bedside nurse rolling trophy.

Addressing the newly commissioned nursing officers, Maj Gen Datta said military nursing was a highly challenging profession where nurses needed to toil hard, and at times, in difficult terrains to provide compassionate and comprehensive medicare to the soldiers and their families.

Emphasising that excellence in healthcare depends upon the quality of nursing care provided, she called upon the young nursing officers to keep abreast of the latest trends and developments in the healthcare delivery system.

The School of Nursing is an integral part of the Command Hospital. Till date, 773 nursing officers have passed out from this school and it has an excellent academic track record with 100 per cent result to its credit.
