The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organised a press conference at Indian Coffee House, Student Centre, PU, regarding the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Chennai and state training camp held in Ferozepur.

ABVP State Secretary, Punjab, Chiranshu Rattan, said, “The National Education Policy-2019, which was framed by a committee, took two years for drafting. The policy, which consists of 500 pages, has totally destroyed our educational perspective.” The two main proposals passed by the NEC, Chennai, were to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev and to observe the 100 years of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Rattan said these two would be observed in Punjab this year.

Elaborating on the resolutions, Jatin Singh, NEC member, ABVP, said, “Five resolutions were passed which revolved around the education policy of the country. These included the inclusion of Indian history, culture and teachings in the education system and the inclusion of scientific teachings, mother language and local languages in initial educational courses for better intellectual development of the individual.”

Parwinder Singh Katora, Secretary, ABVP, PU, discussed the state training camp held in Ferozepur.

Anshul Sharma, National Executive Council member, ABVP, Punjab, discussed the upcoming programmes.

“ABVP will celebrate its foundation day on July 9 with the announcement of district headquarters teams across Punjab. ABVP, Punjab, will focus on membership throughout Punjab in schools, colleges and universities and will observe the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev and pay tribute to the martyrs of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre,” he added.
