Principals of majority of the schools demanded police protection for safeguarding the girl students from 'romeos'. 

The school principals, who were attending the core committee meeting of the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights at Maloya today, complained that boys keep on burning fuel outside the school and harass girls. One of the government school teachers said each afternoon, a section of students from a school in Sector 8 gather outside her school located in Sector 18 and chase girl. 

"This has become a nuisance. I had taken the pictures of these boys and send it to the school. I had also requested the school authorities concerned to take action but after few days the boys were back and started chasing the girls," rued the school principal.  Majority of the teachers, representing their schools, said: "No woman cops or PCR vehicle is deployed outside the school during afternoon." 

Child-Friendly Chandigarh Campaign launched

Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights, launched Child-Friendly Chandigarh Campaign today and stressed on its importance, particularly in the light of the recent incidents, and expressed great concern regarding safety of children in schools. 

Schools asked to check all electrical gadgets 

It was decided that the schools will check all the electrical gadgets and other equipment in the school on regular-basis. District Education Officer will ensure that the schools comply with these orders and the CCPCR will conduct surprise checks in government and private schools to ensure the compliance of these orders in the letter and spirit.

Awareness on blue whale game 

Noting down the ill-effects of the blue whale game, it was decided that the schools will spread awareness among students about this game with the help of counsellors and teachers. 

‘Shout and stop’ programme in school

The commission intended to start ‘Shout and stop’ programme in the school morning assembly. The schools will provide the schedule to conduct the programme. It was also decided that the District Education Officer will compile the data of programme to be conducted in government and private school and intimate the commission.
