Ambala, February 10

Congress leader Himmat Singh on Sunday criticised the BJP government and said it had failed to fulfil the promises made by it.

Speaking to mediapersons, Singh said, “BJP MP Ratan Lal Kataria and MLA Aseem Goel have failed to bring any project to Ambala City. People of Ambala were expecting the announcement of a project for the city in the Union Budget, but it disappointed the voters.”

Accusing the local BJP leaders of promoting corruption, Himmat said, “The corruption is rampant in the Municipal Corporation. Instead of eliminating it, the BJP leaders are busy obliging their confidants. Recently, a tender for the door-to-door garbage collection was given to the same people who were earlier fined for not collecting garbage properly. Norms for tenders are being fixed to benefit a select few.”

“Only a cosmetic development is taking place in Ambala City. Due to corrupt practices, projects like the upgrade of the Civil Hospital, Bal Bhawan, and an underpass near the railway station are getting delayed. The bus stand is being renovated while it should have been constructed on a better site. In the absence of a flyover near Matheri Chowk, accidents have been taking place but no attention is being paid to it. A large number of farmers, who had suffered losses due to a hailstorm in last October are yet to get compensation”, he claimed.

Himmat Singh firther added that the Congress had decided to launch a series of agitations against the BJP. “A list covering local issues of Ambala City is being prepared and it will be sent to the party high command for inclusion in the party manifesto. Besides, a rally will be organised in Ambala City on February 24, which will be addressed by Rajya Sabha MP Kumari Selja.”
