Chandigarh stare at defeat

Chandigarh, April 18

Chandigarh trailed visitors Rupnagar by 186 runs with just three wickets in hand at the close of the second day’s play in their U-16 ML Markan Trophy match at Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, here on Wednesday, even as Arshnoor Singh Pannu hit a 141-ball ton to keep the team in the hunt.  

At the draw of stumps, Chandigarh were battling on 185/7 with Alam Bakshi unbeaten on 36.  

Earlier, resuming at overnight 277/4, Rupnagar were all out for 371 runs as Arshnoor Pannu returned with figures of 7/161. Mayank Gupta, who started the day at 80, scored 129 runs before being sent back to the pavilion.   

Mohali take lead

Harshdeep Singh claimed 7/59 to help Mohali gain a vital 37-run lead against visitors Amritsar at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium here on Wednesday. Resuming the day at 31/1, Amritsar lost wickets at regular intervals to close their innings on 180, even as Manroop Singh scored a valiant 101 off 147 balls.

Mohali then closed the second day on 104/8, stretching their overall lead to 141 runs.   

 Patiala eye victory

Hosts Patiala, meanwhile, gained a 351-run lead over Bathinda at Dhruv Pandove Stadium. 

After scoring a modest 215 in their first innings, the hosts restricted Bathinda to 109 runs to gain a vital 106-run lead before closing the day at 245/8. 

Ludhiana in command 

Jaskaranbir Singh scored 304 runs to help Ludhiana close their first innings at 520 against visitors Jalandhar at the PAU grounds. 

Resuming at 315/2, Jaskaranbir added 120 runs to his overnight total to put his side in a commanding position.   In reply, Jalandhar were batting on 62/1 when umpire called for the day’s play.
