Chandigarh: Chandigarh Chess Association will organise State U-19 Open and Girls Chess Championship at St. Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, from July 14 to15.



Chandigarh: Chandigarh Chess Association will organise State U-19 Open and Girls Chess Championship at St. Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, from July 14 to15. A total of four boys and four girls will be selected to represent the city in the upcoming national championship to be held in Delhi from December 3 to 11. Interested players can submit their entries with the organisers before July 14 at www.chandigarhchess.com.

PCA members mourn deaths 

Mohali: Members of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) condoled the death of RD Singh, a former cricket coach with Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana, who was actively involved with the promotion of the cricket in the state.  The association also condoled the death of former state cricketer Sumit Kalia from Jalandhar who drowned in Gobind Sagar Lake.

Minerva beat IAF in exhibition tie  

Chandigarh: Minerva Punjab FC defeated Indian Air Force in a tie-break finish during an exhibition match at Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday. After a 1-1 draw, the Mohali outfit outclassed the Air Force men 5-4 on penalties. The match was organised by the Delhi Football Foundation and IJLC in association with Football Delhi. The Minerva boys drew the first blood in the 18th minute through their newly signed Japanese striker Yu Kunoki.  The Air Force men struck in the 89thminute through their skipper Prabjoyt Singh.

Patiala win overall trophy 

Mohali: Patiala teams won overall championships on the concluding day of the Punjab Fencing Championship, on Sunday. In the boys’ U-17 category, Patiala fencers scored 48 points to claim the title, while Amritsar finished second with 18 points. Bathinda finished third with seven points in their kitty. In the girls’ U-17 category, Patiala claimed the title by scoring 39 points. Gurdaspur (23 points) and Fatehgarh Sahib (21 points) claimed second and third positions. In the boy’s U-14 category, Patiala team got the overall trophy with 39 points, followed by Gurdaspur (17 points) and Tarn Taran (11 points). TNS
