Patiala, February 20

A day after The Tribune reported about an illegal building, under construction, opposite to Old Tractor Market on Bhera road in the city, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has sealed it with immediate effect. Though the corporation had earlier taken action and razed parts of the building, the authority later turned a blind eye to it. As a result, the construction of the building continued unabated.

The building with about 15-feet front, constructed in nearly 400 sq yards of area was acquired illegally from residential houses in the vicinity. It was a threat to life and property of the neighbours who repeatedly raised questions over lack of effective action by the corporation.

The matter was brought to the notice of the corporation official who failed to act immediately. The haphazard building was being constructed without seeking a Change of Land Use (CLU).

The owners planned to open a full-fledged market in the building if completed, which would have led to severe traffic jams in the area, where bottlenecks are a common sight.
