The Punjab State Cyber Crime Cell is investigating into a case in which Finance Minister Manpreet Singh’s identity was being used by someone else on a social networking site to seek “donation”. He is shown making an appeal to people for financial help for a girl suffering from cancer.

SPS Parmar, Inspector General (Cyber Crime) of the Punjab Police, said they received a complaint in this regard from the minister’s staff, after which a team was dispatched to Moga.

“The account number given in the fake post is of the Bank of Punjab in Moga. The account in question has been frozen and our team will get the details of transactions through it,” said IG Parmar.

He added that a case in the matter was yet to be registered. “The preliminary investigation is under way. Action will be taken after that,” said IG Parmar.

He said efforts were also on to identify the accused by contacting the authorities of the social networking site.

In the post, the minister is shown appealing to the people to help the girl by depositing money in a particular bank account.
