DLSA extends a helping hand to poor farmer

The judicial intervention of the District Legal Services Authority, Mohali, proved helpful for a poor farmer who had been running from pillar to post to get his son’s birth registered with the local authorities.

“Lakhmir Singh, a resident of Mullanpur Garibdas village, approached us with his grievance and 

we took up his case with the department concerned,” Shikha Goel. Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Mohali said.

Goel said initially he had approached a social worker to get the job done, who then sent the documents to the Mohali Deputy Commissioner, Kharar SDM and other authorities concerned.

Following the matter being taken by the legal authority, Lakhmir was called to the Registrar of Birth and Death and the relevant entries were made in the birth certificate within 24 hours, Goel said.

Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said he would look into the matter and ensured that residents were not harassed. “We will streamline the system and put into place an effective mechanism,” he added.

Gets him son’s birth certificate in 24 hrs

Following the matter being taken by the legal authority, Lakhmir was called to the Registrar of Birth and Death and the relevant entries were made in the birth certificate of his son within 24 hours.
