MOHALI: Sleuths of the Customs Department recovered unclaimed gold biscuits, weighing 3.5 kg, from a Dubai flight at the Chandigarh international airport here today.

Sleuths of the Customs Department recovered unclaimed gold biscuits, weighing 3.5 kg, from a Dubai flight at the Chandigarh international airport here today.

According to a spokesperson for the Customs Department, the gold, which was in the form of 30 biscuits, is valued at around Rs 1.15 crore in the market.

The spokesperson said the Dubai-Chandigarh flight arrived at 11.25 am after which the department checked the flight. He said 30 gold biscuits, valued at Rs 1,14,64,250, were found wrapped in three black adhesive tapes concealed in a cavity adjoining a passenger seat. The gold has been seized as unclaimed under the Customs Act, I962, and further investigations in the case are on.            

The spokesperson said the passenger travelling on the seat from which the gold was recovered denied its ownership after which the gold was termed unclaimed. Each gold biscuit approximately weighs 116 gm. The Customs Department had confiscated the gold, he said.
