Chandigarh, June 24
A Naraingarh-based family of 19-year-old Arun Kumar, who died recently due to a head injury at the PGI, has kindled hope for three terminally ill patients with organ donation. It is 18th cadaver organ donation this year here at the premier hospital of the region.
After family’s consent, liver, kidneys and pancreas were retrieved from the deceased, which through transplantation at PGI enabled second lease of life to three patients.
The mortal remains of his young son were being handed over to him at the mortuary of PGI today.
It was on June 17, when Arun was on his way to work on his bike when he was crushed down by a speeding vehicle from behind, leaving him with grievous head injuries. He died during treatment at the PGI.
“The eldest of all three children, Arun was not only my son, but family’s backbone. At this young age, he was working very hard to contribute to the family’s income. Nobody can imagine our sorrow as we are completely devastated,” said Ghanshyam, shell-shocked but brave-heart father of the donor.
