Kush Bansal of St Soldier International School, Sector 28, Chandigarh, topped the tricity with 98.8% marks in humanities in the CBSE Class XII examination, results of which were declared on Saturday.

The tricity toppers in the other three streams are from Bhavan Vidyalaya in Sector 15, Panchkula.  In commerce, Muskan Goel emerged as the topper with 97.8 per cent marks while Eishvauk Aggarwal with 97.6 per cent and Pranav Goyal with 97.2 per cent are the top scorers in medical and non-medical streams, respectively.

Kush wants to pursue his graduation from Delhi. “My preference is the Delhi College of Arts and Commerce. I am a footballer too and want to continue playing it in Delhi,” he said, adding that he had participated in the CBSE nationals in 2017.

“I am not much active on Facebook. I use to read books and watch football whenever I get time,” he said.

The tricity topper did not take any coaching. “I used to study hard during exams — around 10-12 hours a day. I was regular at studies,” he said. He credited his English teacher Navita for his high scores.

Kush wants to become a journalist. “I think journalists get a better view of society. I want to have some practical knowledge,” he added.

Commerce topper Muskan Goel, daughter of CA parents, said she too wanted to become a CA. She said her parents were her role model, who always supported her. Muskan, who is not into social media, said one should be dedicated and focused to achieve goals in life.

Eishvauk Aggarwal aims to become a doctor as a number of his family members were in this noble profession. She said she would take the AIIMS exam on Sunday.

Daughter of Rajesh Aggarwal and Alka Aggawal, who are in business, Eishvauk said she had been using social networking sites till Class XI but deactivated her accounts when she joined Class XII. She said her parents and teachers are her inspiration.

Proud parents Pankaj Goyal and Mamta Goyal, whose son Pranav Goyal topped in the non-medical stream in the tricity, said they allowed their son to do what he wanted to after watching Three Idiots, a Bollywood movie. Pranav, a resident of Sector 15, Chandigarh, is currently in Mumbai for a camp as he had cracked Indian National Physics Olympiad. In JEE Mains, Pranav was ranked fourth in the country. His parents, who are in Pharma business, said their son would now take admission in the IIT, Mumbai. Later, he will pursue MBA and become an entrepreneur.
