Man gets 4-yr jail for robbing phone

CHANDIGARH:A local court on Friday sentenced a man to four-year jail for robbing a Behlana resident’s phone at knifepoint.

A local court on Friday sentenced a man to four-year jail for robbing a Behlana resident’s phone at knifepoint. 

The convict has been identified as Sanjay, who was also directed to pay a fine of Rs 3,500. According to the complaint, on December 29 last year, Jitender Kumar, a mason, was returning home on his bicycle from Sector 5, Panchkula, when three boys intercepted him around 9 pm near a railway bridge at Vikas Nagar. One of them held his arms while the other held a knife to his neck. The third accused took out the mobile phone from Kumar’s pocket. 

A case under Section 397 and 34 of the IPC was registered at the Mauli Jagran police station. The FIR was initially lodged against unknown accused. The trio was arrested later. Two accused, being minors, are being tried in the juvenile court.
