Deepak-Harron win doubles title

Chandigarh, January 12 

Deepak Saxena and Haroon Rashid edged out Himansh Kohli and Sunil Dhiman 21-14 21-17 to win the men’s 40+ doubles title in the ongoing State Masters Badminton Championship at the Sector 43 Sports Complex here on Sunday. 

Earlier, in the semifinals, the duo had defeated S Sharma and Sanjeev Sharma 21-7 21-10. 

The two will, however, face each other in the men’s 40+ singles final on Sunday.

In the semifinals played here on Saturday, Saxena drubbed Kuldeep Sharma 21-18 21-15, while Rashid dismissed Deshmukh Arora 21-10 21-12. 

Meanwhile, Alok Mishra registered a 21-15 21-17 win over Preet in the men’s 45+ semis.

In the mixed doubles, Rahul Kalra and Alok Mishra defeated Gurjaut Singh and Vajindra 21-14 21-15 to enter the 45+ age-group final. 

The duo will play Gurpreet Goldy and Sukhi for the title.

Goldy and Sukhi downed Rajiv Huda and Rupen 21-13 21-19 in the semifinals. 

Gurpreet Sidhu defeated SP Singh 21-16 21-17 to set up the title clash with Rajeev Mehta in the 55+ age-group. Mehta tamed Ombeer 21-13 21-16 in the semifinal. 

In the 60+ age-group, Sudhir Singal humbled GS Bakshi 21-17 21-15 to win the men’s title. — TNS

Twin titles for SGGS boys

Chandigarh: Sri Guru Gobind Singh (SGGS) College, Sector 26, won twin titles on the concluding day of the PU Inter-College Sepak Takraw Championship here on Saturday. SSGS topped the men’s regu event before dominating the field in the doubles competition to win their second title. GGD SD College, Sector 32, finished second in regu competition, while GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sudhar, claimed the third spot. In the men’s doubles contest, SGGS College was followed by GGD SD College in second place, while PU Campus and GHG College shared the third position. GHG College, meanwhile, won both the events in the women’s category. The side was followed by GGS College for Women, Sector 26, in second place, while Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector 45, and GGD SD College finished joint third in the regu competition. TNS
