MC tells UT to pay Rs 5-cr property tax

Chandigarh: Intensifying its drive against property tax defaulters, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has now issued a notice to the Chief Engineer of the UT Administration asking the official to pay property tax amounting to Rs 5 crore due for government buildings and offices.

Intensifying  its drive against property tax defaulters, the Chandigarh  Municipal Corporation has now issued  a notice  to the  Chief Engineer  of the UT Administration asking the official to pay property  tax  amounting to Rs  5 crore due for government buildings  and offices.

Sources  said the   MC had asked the UT  Administration to  pay the tax before  July 31. In case  of failure to do so, action  would be initiated as per the law.

The MC recently tightened the  noose around defaulters  and  served   attachment notices on them. They have been directed to deposit dues within 15 days from the date of receipt of this order. As per the  notification, government buildings  are also liable  to pay tax in the form of service  charge  to the MC every year.
