Encroachers evicted

Chandigarh: A team of the Estate Office removed encroachments during at Dhanas here on Friday. During the drive, government land illegally occupied by more than 30 scrap dealers was retrieved after bringing down their temporary structures using JCB machines. The drive was carried out in the presence of a large number of cops. TNS

Biker held with fake plate

Chandigarh: One person was arrested while riding a motorcycle bearing a fake registration number in Sector 45 here. According to the police, the accused, identified as Harpal Singh, a resident of Burail village in Sector 45, was arrested from near a government school in Sector 45 while riding the motorcycle with the fake registration number. A case against the accused has been registered at the Sector 34 police station. TNS

Traders meet Home Secy

Chandigarh: A delegation of the Chandigarh Business Council raised the vendors' issue before UT Home Secretary Arun Kumar Gupta at Sector 17 here on Friday. Led by Neeraj Bajaj, president of the council, the delegation told the Home Secretary that "traders are harassed at the hands of a large number of vendors, who were putting our business at stake. The Chandigarh Administration has notified Sector 17 as a 'no vendor zone' a few months ago and accordingly, there should be no vendors in the area". He said they approached the authorities concerned many times to remove them but to no avail. TNS

Dhakoli resident conned

Zirakpur: A Panchkula resident has been booked for cheating on the complaint of Naresh Gaurav on Friday. The complainant, a resident of Dhakoli, told the police that he made a deal to purchase a flat in Aero Homes Society in Zirakpur for Rs 36.65 lakh for which he had already paid Rs 14 lakh to the accused. He alleged that through his reliable sources he came to know that the flat he purchased had been mortgaged to a private bank. A case has been registered and further probe is on. OC

120 units of blood donated

Zirakpur: As many as 120 units of blood was collected during a blood donation camp conducted by the Peer Muchalla Sports and Welfare Club in Zirakpur on Friday. Deepinder Singh Dhillon, General Secretary, PPCC, was the chief guest. A team of doctors from Zirakpur collected the blood at the camp. Many others were present on the occasion. Gursewak Singh, Chairman, Peer Muchhala Sports and Welfare Club, thanked the donors and said such camps would be held in near future also. OC
