Mohali, November 27

Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan today constituted a four-member committee for the allotment of houses to families of 1984 riot victims.

The Deputy Commissioner ensured that the Sikh families of 1984 riot victims living in different sectors of the city would get their houses at the earliest.

The DC-cum-chairman, Riots Victims Allotment Committee, called the victims’ families at a meeting held today in which their demands were discussed. Greater Mohali Area Development Authority officials also took part in the meeting.

After hearing the opinions of both sides, the DC constituted the committee in which four members, two government officials and two representatives of riots victims (Sukhwinder Singh Bhatia and Tejinder Singh Oberoi) are selected.

The task of the committee is to identify all 1984 riots victims as well as PUDA and GMADA employees living in government houses in various phases. After identification, the committee has to submit the report to the Deputy Commissioner. After getting the report from the members, the DC will take decision on the allotment of houses to the families.

It is to be noted that a delegation led by Sukhwinder Singh Bhatia had submitted a letter to the DC a few days ago in which they demanded their house allotment as per the court orders. The delegation even warned that if their demands were not fulfilled in 5 days, they would hold a protest in the city.
