Mohali too joins the fitness wave

Mohali, June 21

Around 500 persons, mainly school students and senior officials of the Mohali Administration, practised yoga in a one-hour district-level yoga session to mark International Day of Yoga at the Sports Complex, Sector 78, here, today.

The participants were earlier shown a documentary on yoga, its asanas and their benefits. Then, the main session started at 7 am, which lasted till 8 am here.

The main session began with the lighting of ceremonial lamp by three small girls, who were especially called by Mohali Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra.

The Mohali DC also participated actively in the event and performed yoga asanas.

“Today’s life has become hectic and full of mental stress. Yoga is the key solution to all these problems. By practicing yoga, we would not only remain disease-free and stress-free but also can increase our concentration level and mental level manifold,” said Sapra after the event. 

The event was organised by the District Administration in cooperation with the Ayush Department, Punjab.

Earlier, special buses were arranged for the transportation of schoolchildren from their respective schools. All participants were given t-shirts.

The students were happy after the yoga session. 

Dr Rajiv Mehta, who was the main instructor at the today’s event, said the session was enjoyable. “All participants were performing asanas with utmost seriousness. The enthusiasm of schoolchildren was just icing on the cake,” said Dr Mehta.

Cancer patients attend session

Around 75 cancer patients and their family members attended a yoga workshop at Max Super Specialty Hospital here. Yoga expert Ritu Bala guided the patients through different techniques, thus enabling the patients to achieve peace and harmony and boost well-being in their recovery process. The workshop also aimed at empowering and equipping individuals with the ‘awareness’ of connecting back to themselves to live ‘effective and productive’ lives.
