DAV Institute of Management, located within the premises of DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh, has yet again failed to comply with a number of conditions imposed by the PU’s inspection committee.

The last inspection was carried out on October 30. The report will be considered before the affiliation committee meeting, scheduled for Wednesday. Though the institute was not instructed to conduct any admissions, it admitted 16 students in MBA first year.

Sources said the institute failed to appoint any regular director. The situation was same as on August 21, when the previous inspection was conducted. It had held interview for the post on July 30, but the selected director did not join.

The inspection committee had called for appointment of one associate professor and four assistant professors on regular basis. But the committee had on October 30 found that the institute had only three faculty members — one associate and two assistant professors. The panel found that the appointment letters to associate professors and assistant professors showed that they would get just basic pay plus AGP and no allowances.

It was informed by one of the faculty members that he was being paid lump sum of Rs 10,000 per month. The copy of salary register was not provided to the committee, despite repeated requests.

On the appointment of the librarian and non-teaching staff, the committee said they were shown papers that staff had been shifted, but no details about their joining report was shown to them. Also, no details regarding posting or appointment of the librarian were provided, it said.

The committee had, earlier too, called for separating the land for the proposed institute from the master plan of the land allotted to DAV College, Sector 10. However, no compliance was done as on October 30. The committee was shown a letter of February 11, 1972, issued from the Estate Office, Chandigarh, certifying the occupation and use of the building for the college.

The committee has been objecting to the name of the institute also, which is Institute of Management c/o DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh. It was told that it had written a letter to the President of DAV College Management Committee in New Delhi for naming the institute as ‘DAV Institute of Management, Sector 10, Chandigarh’ on March 14 this year, but to no avail.

When the record of internal assessment of the students of previous semester was called, it was not provided to the inspection committee.

The executive committee of the DAV College Teachers’ Union also met the inspection committee and expressed strong resentment against the creation of the Institute of Management within the premises of DAV College.

The inspection committee left it to the PU’s affiliation committee for taking any decision on the fate of DAV’s Institute of Management.

Explanation called from exam branch officials

Despite affiliation not being granted to DAV Institute of Management, Sector 10, examination branch of PU allegedly granted roll numbers to students. Now, explanation has been demanded from senior officials who allegedly accepted the returns of the students.
