Ovations on Khayyam classics reverberate Tagore Theatre

CHANDIGARH: Over a dozen singers from the region paid musical tributes to the iconic Bollywood music director Khayyam at a special programme organised by Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi at Tagore Theatre here today.

Chandigarh, September 4

Over a dozen singers from the region paid musical tributes to the iconic Bollywood music director Khayyam at a special programme organised by Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi at Tagore Theatre here today.

The programme commenced with Rinki Gill and Shailesh Shrivastav from Mumbai sharing their association with Khayyam. While Gill shared about the secular thinking and patriotism of the legend, Srivastav spoke of musical prominence, especially use of raga Pahadi with perfection, by Khayyam.

The superlative performances came from classical vocalist Nidhi Narang and music director Atul Sharma besides Rajat Raj and Rza Heer Rajesh Kaushal, Yogita Sharma, Rakesh Arora and Sonalika. Akademi chairman Kamal Arora conducted the programme.

Rakesh Arora, who sang ‘Main pal do pal ka shayar hun’, Rajat Raj and Yogita (‘Parbaton ke pedhon par’) won applause.

A devout versatile singer, Rza Heer, sang ‘Ladhi re ladhi’, Rajesh Kaushal and Sonalika presented ‘Apki mehki hui’ and Musafir ‘Kabhi kabhi mere dil mein’. Others who stole the limelight were Naresh Jacob with ‘Asman pe hai khuda’.

Audience had reserved their applause for the concluding performance song ‘Karoge yaad toh’ by Atul Sharma. Ten-member team of musicians led by Vinod –Lovely accompanied the artistes. Chief guest Sanjeev Kalra blessed the artistes.
