Chandigarh, November 9

The admission process for nursery and pre-nursery classes in private schools will start from November 30. A meeting took place between school principals and officials of the Education Department today at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19, Chandigarh, where a consensus emerged among the schools but a formal announcement is yet to

be made.

It has been decided that by November 30, all the schools will upload information about admission process on websites. By December 12, the parents will be able to submit their application forms.

The schools have to complete the process of draw of lots and put up the lists on notice board or websites by January 15. The last day to submit fee has been fixed at February 10.

“Enough time has been given so that if a child has got admissions at multiple schools, parents should get enough time to decide,” said HS Mamik, president of Independent School Association.

“The proposal has been formed and sent to higher authorities for final approval. The schools have been asked to stick to Right to Education Act rules,” said District Education Officer Rajinder Kaur.

Committee formed to resolve EWS issue

A 12-member committee has been formed. It comprises of school principals. They will to look into the dispute of reimbursement of Economically Weaker Section (EWS). The private schools say that a policy had come around 1996 that 15 per cent EWS students had to be taken by those who had got plots under the scheme and would be charged a nominal fee.

“Around 2005-06, all schools have been asked to take 15 per cent students and it was intimated that nominal fee meant no fee could be charged,” said Mamik.

At that time the private schools had resisted the move.

The dispute arose again when in the RTE Act which called for taking 25 per cent EWS students. Under the Act, the fee for the EWS has to be reimbursed by the education department. But they agreed to pay for only 10 per cent students. “We want the RTE Act to be implemented fully,” he said.
